Description/Blazon
A circular device of silver metal and enamel 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in width consisting of a silver disc bearing white flaunches and overall a maroon cross patty bearing at center a silver cross barby; surrounded on the sides and top by a maroon triparted scroll inscribed "SPIRIT OF SUPPORT" in silver letters.

Symbolism
Maroon and white are colors traditionally associated with the Medical Corps. The cross patty suggests two concave optical lenses formed into a cross, the traditional symbol of mercy. The white flaunches suggest two convex optical lenses, and in combination with the concave optical symbols, allude to the former unit's mission. The silver cross barby suggests movement from a centralized location and symbolizes the logistical aspects of the unit's mission.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 47th Medical Unit on 22 September 1981. It was redesignated for the 147th Medical Battalion on 10 February 1993.
